Design Build - Clean Room

We were called into an industrial operation to design a state of the art HVAC system for a vital production area.

The HVAC system allows all industrial molds to be held to critical matching tolerances.

We approached our customer and expressed our concern regarding the high outside air ventilation that was required to offset the exhaust hoods. We felt that the proposed computer room units were not an engineered product that was designed to withstand this variation. Our solution was to start from the beginning and design a built up engineered system with full 100% redundancy for this specific application.

We provided 2 air handlers with steam and chilled water coils. We also provided full humidification and dehumidification capabilities. Each of these would be able to run off of the plant steam and chilled water. We also installed a backup emergency stand alone chilled water system, as well as electric resistance heat coils.

This final project cost approximately 15% more than the specified product. If the original system would have been installed it would not have met their requirements. In addition, it would have been a very high maintenance installation.

The design of the system was to hold dry bulb temperature +/- 1 degree Fahrenheit (DB) and relative humidity +/- 5% (WB).

Our final design resulted in +/- ½ degree Fahrenheit DB and +/- 2½% WB. This far exceeded all expectations.
