A Fortune 500 Company Refrigerant Retrofit

Over the past few years Standard Plumbing & Heating has been a leader in the retrofitting of air conditioning to the new EPA approved refrigerants.

Most of the HVAC equipment in our customers steel making operations were operating on refrigerant R-12. R-12 is still available for purchase, but is very expensive at $35.00 a pound. It's price will only increase as worldwide supply diminishes. Each manufacturer has various conversion procedures with the most dramatic being coil or expansion valve change-out. In most cases we can purchase a refrigerant or "blend" different refrigerants to meet capacity.

We performed an aggressive campaign for conversion to more readily available refrigerants. The savings to the customer are enormous. The cost of our replacement refrigerants which as a sampling are R-22, R-134 and M-39 range in price from $2-$6 a pound.

This program was initiated by our people to avoid purchasing expensive and heavily regulated refrigerant, which saved our customer money. It also allows continuous operation on all equipment because of availability of Standardized refrigerant.
